This is the scarcest of the three die pairs known involving reverse R220, quite possibly because the only example we have seen is from an obverse die that was near catastrophic failure (note the large die crack across the lower portion). If this crack developed early the mintage from this die pair could be quite low. Because the crack on the known example is so large, we have labeled this state 220A.5, to allow for at least two earlier states.
Red = area with die crack(s) observed in most advanced die pair state
Abbreviations: Cr = crack, T = trace, S = small, M = moderate, L = large
| Die Pair State | Obverse Characteristics |

Letter color code: Black = normal, Green = broken & unrepaired, Brown = broken with noteworthy repunching
In BANK the A is repunched, leaving doubling along the upper right side.
In BANK the N is repunched in slightly lower relief in a new font with very thin serifs. The serifs of the new font show in the broken areas of the original broken letter: the upper left serif and left top of the right leg.
